The recurring question concerns the CIPMN registration requirements and application procedures. This article answers this question and provides insights into CIPMN registration and everything you need to know to join the Institute.
The Chartered Institute of project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN) was established to regulate the standards, training, discipline and the control of the profession of project management in Nigeria. The institute is also responsible for the licensing of all project managers practicing in Nigeria.
Since CIPMN is new and evolving, we anticipate changes and updates to its registration procedures from time to time. Hence, the details here are the registration requirements and process in 2018.

Registration Requirements and Qualifications for CIPMN
The Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria membership is open to anyone who is actively involved in, or sufficiently interested in the knowledge and application skills of Project Management. The CIPMN registration requirements described below are for the different membership categories in the Institute.
1. Approved Qualifications for Students Registration
To apply for student membership of CIPMN, applicants must have the following:
a. Five (5) credit passes including English Language and Mathematics in the West African School Certificate Examination, General Certificate of Education or Senior Secondary Certificate Examination in not more than two sittings.
b. Ordinary National Diploma (OND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) of any Polytechnic recognised by the Council of the Institute.
c. National Certificate of Education (NCE) from any College of Education.
d. Any other relevant qualification or Possession of years of on the job experience approved by the Institute.
2. Approved Qualifications to register as a Graduate Member
To apply as a graduate member of CIPMN:
a. Applicant must have attained the age of 18 years
b. Applicants must pass the qualifying examination accepted by the Institute.
3. Approved Qualifications to register as Associate Member (By Direct Membership)
To apply for associate membership without writing exams, applicants must:
a. Have attained the age of 23 years
b. Hold HND/BSC MSC/MBA/PHD in social science.
c. May in addition hold professional qualification certificates from COREN, CSN, NSE, NIA, NQSEV, ICAN, ANAN, CITN, NIB etc;
d. Have satisfied any other Conditions which the council may from time to time approve
4. Approved Qualifications to register as Associate Membership (By Examination)
Applicants can become associate members through the examination route if they fulfil the following conditions:
a.Applicant must attain the age of 23 years
b.Must pass all the Institute’s qualifying examination (All Parts)
5. Approved Qualifications for Corporate Membership
Organisations and companies can become members of the Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria if:
a. Their employee headcount is a minimum of 25 employees
b. They have or intend to have a functional working relationship with the institute.
c. They also must satisfy any other Conditions which the council makes.
Who can apply for CIPMN Membership in 2018
Membership opportunities into CIPMN are currently open to individuals and corporate organisations interested in project management. There are generally 3 categories of memberships available in the institute. The categories include:
a. Individual category
b. Corporate category
c. Student category
There are also special categories being admitted for membership in 2018. The CIPMN Act provides for those in these special categories to submit their applications within the first year of the establishment of the Act. Hence, registration based on these categories could elapse by January 23, 2019.
These special categories include:
a. Individuals who have qualifications or certifications from foreign countries that submit applications for membership within the stipulated period.
b. Special considerations also currently apply for individuals who have sufficient working experience and hold other professional qualification certificates from COREN, CSN, NSE, NIA, NQSEV, ICAN, ANAN, CITN, NIB etc.
Note that the governing council of the institute reserves the right to grant or refuse any application. They also will determine the appropriate class of membership to admit individuals into.
How To Apply for Membership into CIPMN
The procedure below provides recommended steps to apply for CIPMN membership in 2018. It is certain that these guidelines will change and may become more complex in the coming year.
Application for membership registration can be made by taking the following steps:
1. Obtain the membership application form ( application form can be obtained any of CIPMN Zonal offices or download from their website)
New members are to Pay a none refundable fee of N 15000 or Its equivalent in Dollars.
2. Make a non refundable payment for the none refundable fee of N 15000 or Its equivalent in Dollars to CIPMN account.
The full membership fees for each category are:
- Associate – N150,000
- Graduate – N150,000
- Chartered –N250,000
- Corporate – N500,000
3. Complete the form and attach your coloured passport photograph to the form.
4. Enclose the printed copy of the completed application form the form together with:
- Photocopy of all your supporting credentials.
- Two copies of certified passport photographs
- Original copy of the bank teller or bank payment receipt
5. You can also fill the application form and upload directly to their website; or submit the physical application to their head office at:
